The Kerby A. Miller Collection Irish Emigrant Letters and Life Stories from North America Imirce provides access to thousands of letters, life stories, and other documents composed by Irish emigrants to North America from the seventeenth through the mid-twentieth centuries. To date, 8,500 letters and 280 life stories have been published online, with the collection continuing to grow through public contributions, creating a rich resource for researchers, creatives and the public. Imirce offers new ways to explore, connect with and tell the stories contained within this remarkable collection.

 

Join us to discover more about Imirce, the process of bringing these historical materials into a digital space, and the opportunities for creativity and collaboration that digital archives can create.

 

We’ll be joined by Daniel Carey, Established Professor of English and Head of English at the University of Galway, and Kyle Kusch, Project Digital Archivist at the University of Galway Library Heritage Collections, who will share insights into the project and its development.

 

The event will also provide an opportunity to connect with fellow creatives, enjoy lunch and coffee, and explore connections across Galway’s creative ecosystem.
